Chapter 040 – Draws Are Addictive

The brightening sky awakened the sleeping city.

“What do you think sunlight after rain looks like?”

Luo Qingchuan hesitated for a moment. “Cotton candy? Soft, fluffy, and light.”

Su Yingxue smiled, but the words “I think it looks like you” never left her lips.

In the early morning, when one can continue living while yearning for beauty, that in itself is a rare kind of happiness.

Su Yingxue lifted her delicate hand. The ethereal image of the Dulu sword flew from her fingertips, slowly solidifying, fluttering in the air as it formed a beautiful pattern of sword flowers.

“So pretty,” Luo Qingchuan murmured.

The girl's hair was jet-black and glossy, catching the faint glow of golden light. Her upturned eyes, fixed on the sword, were radiant and gorgeous—large, brimming with clarity, yet dark like ink, with glimmering starlight flickering like foam within their elegant depths.

“I really like this sword too,” Su Yingxue said, glancing at Luo Qingchuan beside her. “Where did you…”

The girl momentarily froze.

Because Luo Qingchuan was looking at her when he spoke.

The sunlight was so warm it made her cheeks tingle. Su Yingxue instinctively averted her gaze, blushing. “Where did you get it?”

“I got it from…”

“The black market again?” Su Yingxue couldn’t help but chuckle softly, but then composed herself, tucking a messy strand of hair behind her ear and slowly saying, “Buying cultivation resources… You need them more than I do.”

Luo Qingchuan smiled. “I bought this sword to protect you. I feel like the world is full of malice toward beautiful women.”

Su Yingxue blushed and clenched her teeth. “Then what about you?”

“I’m useless,” Luo Qingchuan declared confidently. “So if there’s danger, you’ll protect me.”

Su Yingxue seemed to want to laugh, but only the corners of her lips moved. She said gently, “Okay.”

「Dulu」Saint Value: 3000.

Luo Qingchuan hadn’t fully figured out the Saint System yet. For now, he just bought whatever he could. Even saving a little was enough to splurge.

The young man headed toward the kitchen. “I’ll go make some breakfast.”

“But I’m not hungry…” Su Yingxue followed him.

“Cultivators still need a bit of worldly energy. Being too immortal isn’t good.”

Su Yingxue’s gaze turned soft with faint grievance. She pouted playfully. “You’re hard to satisfy.”

“Actually… not really…” Luo Qingchuan looked back at her with a playful smile.

Su Yingxue quickly realized that was a mischievous grin. She gently pounded his back. “Go make breakfast! I’m hungry now!”

“I’ll satisfy you right away.”

“Say one more word and I’ll send you flying to immortality!”

“To where? What immortality?”

“Take this sword!”

Su Yingxue’s slender fingers stiffened as her soft little pinky poked Luo Qingchuan’s back again and again. She laughed happily.

Luo Qingchuan quickly ran into the kitchen.

His guilty and hurried figure made Su Yingxue giggle until her eyes curved. Her delicate body stretched lazily like a cat as she half-lay on the sofa.

“I’m actually pretty good at cooking too. I used to cook a lot at home. You can let me do it.”

Then she heard Luo Qingchuan casually reply, “There’s plenty of time ahead. You’ll have lots of chances.”

The girl suddenly went quiet.

Buzz.

Su Yingxue slowly sat up and saw Luo Qingchuan’s phone on the coffee table light up.

The screen’s faint glow reflected in her eyes, as dark and clear as black gemstones.

…… …… ……

Chen Yanyu: [Picture]
Chen Yanyu: [The city looks beautiful in the daytime too!]

A slender jade-like hand gently set down the phone. Sitting alone on the hotel bed, Chen Yanyu sighed softly, her delicate face puzzled.

“Why did Luo Qingchuan suddenly stop replying last night? Did he fall asleep? Is he awake now?”

She mumbled, hugging a pillow and burying her fairy-like face into it.

“Obviously I just wanted an excuse to talk to you, Luo Qingchuan…”

She whispered, “Dummy.”

Chen Yanyu remembered finishing the latest episode of her drama last night.

That annoying male lead actually rejected such a cute and beautiful female lead!

Rejected! Her!

It was something that should’ve made her mad… but now, Chen Yanyu suddenly felt like crying.

She wiped her reddening eyes, pouted, and got up to get dressed.

In the end—

In a daze—

She put on a little checkered shirt and paired it with stylish dark gray shorts, the curve of her delicate hips perfectly outlined, her fair legs smooth like warm jade in the morning light.

The silver-haired girl stood before the full-length mirror, put on a baseball cap, and slid on dark sunglasses over her stunning face.

Chen Yanyu placed her dainty hands on her slim waist and looked at herself.

Fierce aura.

Hmm… kind of a hot-girl vibe…

Should she tie her hair into a high ponytail?

As she pondered, her slender fingers reached behind her head, unconsciously gathering her snowy hair.

She removed her sunglasses with one hand.

Chen Yanyu’s golden eyes stared blankly into the mirror, gazing at the delicate and pure face reflected within.

She was dazed for a moment.

Wondering… would he like this?

…… …… ……

Luo Qingchuan ate quickly.

He walked alone to the balcony, opened the window, and let the moist breeze wash over him as he lit a cigarette.

The cigarette had been found in a drawer full of expensive luxury brands.

[Fate Reversal System: Today’s mission—Finish a cigarette, and you’ll be the bad boy everyone dislikes.]
[Reward: 500 Fate Reversal Points.]

Luo Qingchuan suddenly wanted to roll the gacha.

He summoned the Fate Reversal System’s big spinning wheel.

100 points per draw, or 10-draws in a row.

“Let’s not waste time. Let’s go!”

He quickly tapped the single draw.

Hoping for a miracle.

[Ding.]
[Item acquired: Blessing of Brutality.]
[Description: Symbol of tragic fate and impure love.]
[Effect: Slightly boosts strength. Prolonged use may affect the user's mind.]

Luo Qingchuan took it out—it was just a plain black glove. Didn’t add much strength and didn’t look high-tier.

In a real fight between equals, even the smallest advantage could turn the tide.

“Might come in handy.”

He smiled and left it stored in the Fate Reversal System’s inventory.

“Again!”

He drew another.

This time it was a one-time talisman. It reduced body weight and increased flight speed—perfect for escaping or chasing.

Luo Qingchuan found himself getting addicted to these draws. Even stronger than cigarettes. He couldn’t help but go again.

After killing the innocent Mudan, his Fate Reversal and Saint Points both increased by 2,000.

His current cultivation level was Foundation Establishment, and there wasn’t any immediate danger. The experience bar was getting longer.

Might as well trade for items that could significantly boost combat power.

This time he got a spirit stone. In an age without magic, it would probably be extremely valuable—but alas, times had changed.

“Again!”

Another spirit stone.

“I don’t believe this!”

Spirit stone, spirit stone, spirit stone.

[Ding.]
[Item acquired: Qingui.]
[Description: It’s said when people cry all their tears, they turn into vengeful spirits.]
[Effect: Greatly enhances combat instinct. Heightens all six senses. Sharpens the mind… to the point of being overly cold. In your eyes, no one but yourself will matter anymore.]

Luo Qingchuan took it out and held it in his hand.

A grotesque mask of a blue-faced demon, with fangs and a terrifying aura.

Just looking at it gave him chills.

Luo Qingchuan glanced at it, and a smile appeared on his handsome face.

His thoughts were simple.

“Would be better if it weren’t so ugly.”

With a flick of his hand, he stored the mask away.

Footsteps sounded behind him. Luo Qingchuan turned to see Su Yingxue gazing at him coolly.

“No smoking,” she said softly, her eyes flickering with concern. “It’s bad for your health.”

TL/N:

I'm conflicted about using Japanese words in a Chinese novel translation.

If it's a Japanese loanword, then it's unavoidable.

But in cases like "lottery/gacha"—where it's a normal word but the Japanese version as, if not more, popular—I'm torn.

On one hand, those familiar with Japanese terms might visualize the scene more easily. On the other, it could just cause confusion.
